Area of impact
Moving organizations from awareness to action.
Education is the beginning of change, not the end. The Salaam Project supports organizations in developing practice commitments that create more responsive environments for Muslim clients.
What commitments can look like
Practice, not policy statements.
Meaningful practice commitments are specific and show up in the everyday encounter. These are the kinds of commitments organizations may adopt, together with community consultation.
Recognizing faith and spirituality as part of holistic assessment.
Understanding Muslim family and community relationships through a strengths-based lens.
Responding appropriately to religious accommodations.
Supporting Muslim clients during significant religious observances.
Examining policies and procedures through an equity lens.
Future development
The Salaam Recognition Framework.
The Salaam symbol carries the story forward. In the longer arc of this work, it will anchor the future Salaam Recognition Framework: a way to recognize organizations that have committed to ongoing learning, reflection, and accountability in serving Muslim communities.
The framework is not a claim of cultural mastery or perfection. It is a recognition of demonstrated commitment to:
- Meaningful education.
- Reflective practice.
- Ongoing improvement.
- Accountability to Muslim communities.
Earned. Not claimed.
Eligibility, renewal, and accountability pathways are still being developed alongside community consultation and pilot learning. Recognition must be earned through practice, not promised through intention.
